Artist Comment/Statement:

This painted porcelain teacup is a continuation of my whimsical series of self-portraits.  Tillie and Millie are sometimes silly, fun loving women who belong to the Red Hat Society!

This assemblage was created as a donation to the Wild Women's Tea Party 2005 and 1st Annual Tea Cup Invitational and Silent Auction - a benefit for the Wellspring Resource Center - at Censor House & Gardens, Wildwood Avenue, Columbia, South Carolina - April 30, 2005

Materials:

Porcelain plate, plastic doll eyes, plastic doll eyelashes, Aleene's Glass & Bead Adhesive, paint used was Lumiere by Jacquard and Liquitex Glossies mixed with Pebeo Porcelaine, lace, straw hat, ribbon, beads, feathers, styrofoam ball, and curly roving

Techniques:  Assemblage
The lace was soaked in the Pebeo Porcelaine paint and baked with the painted saucer.  The teacup was painted with different images on each side; baked;, and then the doll eyes and eyelashes were attached.  The hat was painted with acrylic paint; then the ribbon, charms, and feathers were attached.  The curly roving was glued to the styrofoam ball, and then the hat was attached. Note: The hair and hat are removable from the teacup, and the teacup can be used for drinking.
